When someone questioned to me the fact of starting a section on the rock in the movies alleging that the topic was already very dogeared, one of the reasons that made me persevere was my conviction of which there are many jewels for discovering, slightly well-known movies that turn out to be key in this of the rock - movies. Undoubtedly one of the most flagrant cases is this "The Rutles", a documentary false descacharrante realized for ex-Monty Python Eric Idle on a band called The Rutles that curiously it continues a history parallel to that of the most famous band of Liverpool revising the vital facts of his career.
The most singular and entertaining fact is that many songs that illustrate the false documentary sound versions musically different from songs of The Beatles, there are many seemed obviously and turn out to be easy to identify the indexed original topics, but there are different songs and the effect is surprising and very worn out. It is not necessary to say that these songs also have his modified letters of hilarious form for the occasion. The merit on the songs is necessary to attribute to Neil Innes, member of the band of the 60 His Bonze Dog Doo-Dah Band and that also he interprets to one of the "Rutles" of the movie.
The genesis of this production comes from the television program Saturday Night Live where Idle realized gags humorous on Rutland, a small territory inside England that it was a target of all his jokes. So they began doing gags on a band of rock gone out of that territory. Those gags were successful that decided to realize this TV movie dedicated to the matter (edited in DVD in Spain). Considering the link with the mentioned program, does not turn out to be strange the appearance of Bill Murray and other comics linked to this famous show. Also they take part giving "veracity" to documentary the people as Mick Jagger, Paul Simon, or the very same George Harrison.
The "documentary" continues the career of the "Prefab-four" from his genesis up to his dissolution, parodying each and everyone of his moments of glory of a surprising way, and documenting the success of his álbumes “Tragical History Tour”, “To Hard's day Rut” or “Sgt. Rutter's Only Darts Club Band”. It is not necessary to forget that we are speaking about Rutland, so it is not necessary to surprise if any of the episodes they are transformed in a slightly Martian way, this way for example, the Rutle that interprets Paul McCartney punk ends up by joining the group.... Pink Floyd!.
I do not believe that any fan of the way Monty Python of understanding the humor remains disappointed with the proposal, and it might say the same about the fans of The Beatles, the truth is that the movie contains some completely hilarious gags and a really surprising work with the songs. Certainly, that is more that clear that Rob Reiner was inspired by this movie for his essential one “This is Spinal Tap”, but about that we will speak another long and stretched day.
Evaluation: 7/10
